Departmental Honors:
Requirement: A 3.5 GPA in all courses taken in the major at McDaniel College and completion of an honors project.
An honors project is a very important consideration for graduate study in psychology. Students are encouraged to engage in any one of a variety of projects (laboratory research, field studies or surveys, case histories, theoretical analysis, etc.). Students should see any full-time faculty member of the Psychology Department for information and assistance. Projects should be initiated by the end of the student's junior year. The final honors project is evaluated and must be approved by all members of the department.
Awards:
Psychology students are eligible to win a variety of awards and honors in recognition of their accomplishments.
- The department sponsors a chapter of Psi Chi, The National Honor Society in Psychology. Eligible students are invited to join each year.
- Each year the Meltzer Award is given to a graduating psychology major who plans to acquire an advanced degree in psychology.
- Psychology majors are eligible for the James D. Smith Award which is accompanied by a scholarship of nearly $500.00.
- Many of our students have also received Student Research and Creativity Grants to fund their own research projects or pay for travel expenses to present their research at national conferences.
