Foreign Languages Professor Tom Deveney, Associate Professor Mohamed Esa and Professor Martine Motard-Noar presented a panel of lectures Oct. 26 on “Islam and Muslims in Europe” at the Montgomery County Association of Teachers of Foreign Languages.
Tuscarora Elementary Principal Steve Lockard ’98 M.S. won the Distinguished Educational Leadership Award for Frederick County. The Washington Post established the awards to recognize principals who create an exceptional educational environment. A 14-year educator, Lockard taught second and fourth grade before serving as assistant principal at New Market, Deer Crossing and Spring Ridge Elementary schools, as acting principal at Wolfsville Elementary, and as principal for Summer Academy and at Brunswick and Tuscarora elementary schools.
The Target Corporation awarded Rebecca Parks ’10, of Reisterstown Md., its $25,000 Target All-Around Scholarship for her outstanding commitment to volunteerism and her efforts in reaching out to those in need in her community. She was selected from more than 23,000 applicants. Parks, who works with numerous volunteer organizations, founded a mission program, Becky’s Aid Project, which donates birthday gifts to children whose families cannot afford them in the Reisterstown area. Becky’s Aid Project provided more than 200 children with gifts on their birthdays in 2005.
