I have had two English courses, by the same teacher and he is WONDERFUL. Dr. Panek is my favorite teacher, because he makes English fun. He is one of the few teachers that I have encountered in my entire school career, who brings to life the subject they teach. He is the one who encouraged me to become an English major, even though he probably has no idea. I enjoyed his class so much, that I decided to switch majors, and I am more than happy with my decision. He's very funny, so it's easy to wake up in class, because I'm always laughing. He is also very knowledgeable about English, so I feel as though I'm getting my money's worth. He's approachable, and I feel that he genuinely cares about his students and their success.

Leroy's class is always a comedy show. You learn so much without even realizing it.

I work at a small university and there is one professor who reminds me so much of Dr. Panek, although this one has a full head of hair. Each day he greets the students (as well as the staff) along the paths with such enthusiasm and vigor. He's not only willing to teach a class about the academic topic of the semester, but also he's willing to teach the students about life. Dr. Panek helped me to graduate from McDaniel College with my head held high even though I struggled through with life problems. It was because of his pursuit to make each English student a quality person, not just student, which made the department so close and friendly during those years. I look back on my time at McDaniel often and I hope that others will do the same. Academics were only part of my college experience, but it was the most important part.
