Administrators from 20 colleges attended the Washington Regional Task Force Against Campus Prejudice meeting at McDaniel College March 15. Director of Multicultural Services Zephia Bryant, who co-chairs the task force, says the group has been an agent for change for nearly 20 years.
“It was the first organization of its kind established in higher education to look at equity and diversity, and issues of race and gender and equality across the board,” says Bryant. “For me, it helps reiterate that we, as an institution, value diversity. It says that we’re on the cutting edge in determining trends that impact colleges.”
At the meeting, participants from colleges in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia charted the course for the next year. They are planning to lead more diversity initiatives and training to promote systemic change, while continuing to be a voice for multiculturalism in higher education.
