Student athletes, coach earn recognition
- Twenty-eight McDaniel College student-athletes have been named to the 2006- 07 Centennial Conference (CC) Winter Academic Honor Roll. To be nominated for the honor roll, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, be of sophomore standing or higher, and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.40.

Katy Powell ’07 was named to the 2007 All-Mid-Atlantic Region third team by d3hoops.com, and 26-year head coach Becky Martin was named the region’s Coach of the Year.

In non-conference softball March 25, Jess Smith ’09 allowed just two runs in 8 2/3 innings to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader sweep over Catholic, 11-2 and 2-1. The Green Terror returns to action at 2:30 p.m. March 30 at Salisbury.

In non-conference baseball March 25, McDaniel’s six late runs helped the team earn a split at St. Mary’s. The Green Terror won game two 6-0 but lost game one 3-2. McDaniel opens the Centennial Conference slate at 3:00 p.m. March 27 at home against Johns Hopkins.

In its first action of the 2007 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field of the season March 24, Josh Murray ’07 won the discus and Chris Eccleston ’10 won the javelin at the Jopson Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater. Matt Rouse ’07 led the way on the track, crossing second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:42.01. The 4x100-meter relay team finished a half-second behind Roanoke to place second with a time of 45.24. Kacey Decker ’09 led the women’s team, finishing third in both the high jump (5-0) and triple jump (34-31/2). Sarah Costa ’09 was third in the 800 with a time of 2:30.15. McDaniel returns to action March 31 at the Goucher Invitational.

McDaniel women’s lacrosse lost 13-7 March 25 to fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall in CC action. The team next plays at 6 p.m. March 28 at Washington College. Men’s lacrosse lost 14-9 to eighth-ranked Washington College March 24. They next play at 3 p.m. March 31 at home against Ursinus.

Men’s tennis lost 5-4 to Muhlenberg March 25 in CC play, despite wins from three McDaniel doubles teams. Muhlenberg also beat McDaniel 9-0 in women’s CC tennis. Women’s tennis returns to action at 3:30 p.m. March 27 against Dickinson.
