What You Need:

In order for you to take advantage of the new wireless hot spots on campus, your current or new laptop will need to be properly equipped. This new technology will allow you to access e-mail and the web without the limitations of a cabled connection.

You will be able to connect with a Macintosh or Windows PC laptop.

Macintosh laptop -

Hardware : you need to have Airport hardware and software installed (Airport Extreme recommended).

Operating System : we recommend System 10.3 or higher

Windows laptop -

Hardware : you need a standard 802.11b/g PCMCIA card, USB adaptor, or internal wireless connection. You will also be able to use a standard 802.11b wireless interface (a card or integrated). Please note that 802.11b/g is recommended (much faster than 802.11b).

Operating System : we recommend XP with Service Pack 2. Remember to keep your operating system up to date!

  • Follow the instructions for your wireless adapter to configure your machine for wireless access and join the 'ResNet' network that appears in your wireless network list.
  • Open your web browser program and you will automatically be directed to the McDaniel College network connection log in page.
  • For Students: You will need to log on the same way you do when you are connecting through your residence hall connection.
