Carroll County
Two local couples – alumni and community leaders -- will spearhead Carroll County efforts on behalf McDaniel College’s recently launched $65-million fund-raising campaign.

William ’50 and Winifred ’53, M.L.A. ’78 Dulany and Robert ’66 and Carolyn ’67, M.L.A. ’76 Scott will chair the Carroll County Committee of the Carpe Diem Campaign for McDaniel College. The English translation of the Latin phrase “carpe diem” is “seize the day” – a fitting name for a campaign for a college nationally recognized for changing the lives of its students.

Community and college have enjoyed a partnership that reaches back to the College’s founding in 1867. Today, nearly 3,000 bachelor’s and master’s alumni reside in Carroll County, and 350 – one in five – of the 1,700 undergraduate students on the Hill call the county home.

"Bob and I are proud of our alma mater and happy we are able to maintain a close association with it," said Carolyn Scott, a trustee of the College since 1996. “McDaniel College is much more than an educational resource for the Carroll County community.

“The college enriches the community by offering cultural events – international discussions, theatre, art, multicultural dinners, music and more – that broaden our global perspectives, and McDaniel students volunteer in the community. Plus, it’s an economic motor that helps drive our economy.”
