A Presentation of the Biology and Chemistry Departments

Type of programs: major and minor

The curriculum of McDaniel’s chemistry department is approved and certified by the American Chemical Society. It provides the breadth and depth necessary for students, upon graduation, to pursue graduate and health professional studies, or to begin careers in industry, government, teaching, or a variety of other fields. Opportunities exist for internships and/or employment to give students practical experience in chemistry and allied fields. The chemistry major requires a minimum of 14 courses—in organic chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, and quantitative analysis, among other areas—and the minor requires 6. Graduates have won assistantships at Bowman-Gray Medical School, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Maryland, M.I.T., Pennsylvania State University, and Stanford, among others.

Other educational options: American Chemical Society— certified chemistry major; dual majors in biochemistry and in chemistry/exercise science and physical education; preprofessional curriculum for the health sciences and industry; minors in exercise science and secondary education.
