Six McDaniel field hockey players named to NFHCA National Academic Squad
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Six members of the McDaniel College field hockey team have been named to the 2007 ZAG/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad, released on Wednesday. Juniors Michelle Fluty (Huntingtown, Md./Calvert) and Erika Wawzyanick (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional) joined sophomore Emily Ardolino (Freeland, Md./Hereford) on the list.
Freshmen Kristin Behrle (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson), Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) and Stephanie Hammond (Parkton, Md./Hereford) also made the necessary grade after their first semester on campus.
To be a member of the squad, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 through the fall semester of the 2007-08 academic year.
Fluty, a midfielder, finished tied for the team lead with six goals. She also added one assist to rank second on the team with seven points.
Wawzyanick, a goalkeeper, made 109 saves while allowing 46 goals between the pipes.
Ardolino, a defender, started all 18 games on defense.
Behrle, a defender, recorded a goal in her only appearance of the season against Bryn Mawr.
Garnett, a defender, recorded one shot in three appearances.
Hammond, a midfielder, recorded a goal and two assists for four points. She started four games.
Ardolino and Fluty were also selected to the CC’s Academic Honor Roll after the fall season.
No fewer than 99 CC student-athletes made the list this year.
As a team, McDaniel was recognized as one of 88 Division III squads with a team GPA of at least 3.0, including all 11 CC teams.
The Green Terror finished the season 6-12 overall (4-6 CC).
