No. 19 Christopher Newport topples McDaniel, 5-0
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Ashley Cybulski scored two goals to lead No. 19 Christopher Newport to a 5-0 victory over McDaniel in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday. The Captains (4-3) held an 18-1 advantage in shots and 17-3 edge in penalty corners, finding the backboard four times in the second half to break open a 1-0 game at halftime.
Erika Wawzyanick (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional) made nine saves for the Green Terror (3-3) while Emma Stout stopped the only shot she faced at the other end.
Cybulski finished a Haylie Black feed at the 23:37 mark for a 1-0 advantage.
Nearly seven minutes into the second half, Anne Gehring doubled the lead before Cybulski stretched it to 3-0 just over a minute later.
Nicole Kuykendall tacked on a pair of goals to set the final margin.
McDaniel returns to action at Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m.
