GETTYSBURG, Pa. –
Emily Harwood recorded three goals and an assist to lead No. 16 Gettysburg to a 5-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.
Jessica Largent (Denton, Md./North Carolie) recorded the lone goal for the Green Terror (7-8, 4-3 CC) while Erika Wawzyanick (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional) made nine saves.
Lexie Hearn added a goal and an assist for the Bullets (10-5, 5-2 CC), who broke a three-way deadlock for third place in the CC with the win and now hold the advantage to earn a first-round bye with three games to play in the conference schedule. McDaniel falls into a tie with Haverford for the fifth, and final, playoff spot.
Off a scramble in front of the cage, Harwood found the backboard for a 1-0 lead just 7:44 into the game.
Just 1:37 into the second half, Savannah Ruth finished a short Lexie Hearn pass in front of the cage to double the advantage on Gettysburg’s first attempt of the second half.
Harwood made it a 3-0 game just over two minutes later, flicking an arcing shot off a defender’s stick and into the top of the cage.
Four minutes later, Jessica Largent (Denton, Md./North Caroline) tipped in a long Michelle Fluty (Huntingtown, Md./Calvert) pass to break up the shutout.
Off a corner in the 52nd minute, Hearn finished a Harwood pass to re-establish the three-goal advantage.
Harwood completed the hat trick with 8:56 to play off a scramble 10 yards out, handing the Green Terror its second consecutive 5-1 loss.
