Moravian dominates McDaniel in CC opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Marc Braxmier completed 9 of 12 passes for 146 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Moravian to a 43-14 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) football opener for both teams on Saturday.
Tyler deRouen led a balanced rushing attack that racked up 210 yards for the Greyhounds (2-0, 1-0 CC), who won their first-ever CC contest. With 66 yards, deRouen joined Tyler McCambridge and Morgan deRouen as Moravian rushers with no fewer than 50 yards.
Eric Zwilsky (Knoxville, Md./Brunswick) led the Green Terror (0-2, 0-1 CC) with 36 yards rushing and both fourth-quarter touchdowns. As a team, McDaniel was held to just 40 yards on the ground and, through two games in 2007, has been outgained 524-141 for the season.
Brad Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) went 16-for-26 and 125 yards through the air and rushed for another 26. Tom Wenrich (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) threw for 124 yards on 14 of 18 in relief.
Brian Reckenbeil, who matched a Moravian record with 11 points in the game, staked the Greyhounds to a 6-0 lead, converting field goals of 28 and 37 yards in the first half.
Between the two field goals, Baer engineered an 18-play, 60-yard drive that ended with an interception in the end zone.
With 1:26 remaining until halftime, McCambridge’s seven-yard run capped a 5-play, 51-yard drive to make it a 13-0 game at the break.
Moravian posted 23 unanswered points in the third quarter, including touchdown passes from Braxmier of longer than 30 yards.
With 10:37 remaining in the quarter, Braxmier found Sean Hill for a 34-yard scoring pass before finishing Morgan deRouen nearly two and a half minutes later on a 30-yard catch-and-run.
After a safety on a botched snap of a punt attempt, Tyle deRouen capped the Greyhounds longest scoring drive of the day with a four-yard run with six seconds to play in the third.
Eric Brinkerhoff recovered a fumble and took it 72 yards with 2:15 elapsed in the fourth quarter, making it a 43-0 game.
With Wenrich in at quarterback hitting short pass-after-short pass, Zwilsky capped a pair of late drives with runs of two yards and five yards.
Derek Zabko (Dade City, Fla./Wesley Chapel) led the defense with nine tackles, including a sack.
Andrew Morrissey had 10 sacks, including two for loss, for Moravian and a pair of forced fumbles.
McDaniel returns to action in the home opener against Catholic on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
