McDaniel stifles Dickinson in 62-41 victory

WESTMISNTER, Md. – Chris Prior (Westminster, Md./Westminster) recorded his third straight double-double with 18 points and a career-best 16 rebounds to lead McDaniel to a 62-41 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Monday.
After allowing a combined 166 points in the last two games, the Green Terror (9-4, 4-2 CC) held the Red Devils (7-5, 3-3 CC) to 17 first-half points en route to surrendering the fewest points in program history since allowing 41 to York (N.Y.) on Jan. 21, 1990.
Tom Leszczynski, who entered the game averaging 16.9 points per game, netted 11 to led Dickinson, who shot a season-low 27.8 percent from the floor.
Prior shot 7 of 10 from the floor in tallying the second highest point total of his senior season. Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) also reached double figures for McDaniel, netting 11 points.
Behind four points from Prior and back-to-back 3-pointers from Finch and Brett Foelber (Sykesville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons), the Green Terror built an 11-0 lead in the first 3:19 that was never challenged.
Leszczynski finally got the Red Devils on the board with a short jumper at the 16:16 mark but the Green Terror countered with 20 of the game’s next 29 points to take its first 20-point lead in the game with 5:54 to play in the first half.
A Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County) triple with 1:50 remaining stretched the lead to as many as 22 en route to a 37-17 halftime advantage.
Five straight points from Leszczynski capped a 13-2 run that trimmed the deficit 47-35 with 7:33 to play.
Two Robert Koebke (Silver Spring, Md./St. Johns) free throws helped spark a 13-0 burst over the next 3 minutes, 43 seconds that gave McDaniel its largest lead of the game at 60-35.
In a matchup of the conference’s top two rebounding teams, the Green Terror won the battle on the glass, 42-30.
McDaniel returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
