Hot shooting carries Muhlenberg to 86-54 win over McDaniel
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Darrell Roth netted 17 of his team-high 19 points in the decisive first half to lead Muhlenberg to an 86-54 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Wednesday.
Brett Foelber (Sykesville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) led the Green Terror (8-3, 3-1 CC) with 20 points in the squad’s first conference loss and worst defensive effort of the season.
The Mules (6-6, 4-1 CC), who also got 15 and 11 points from Ryan Foster and Greg Pask, respectively, shot 60.8 percent from the floor, including a blistering 72.0 percent (18 of 25) in the first half, building a 51-35 halftime advantage.
Knotted at 4-all with 17:49 to play in the first half, Muhlenberg reeled off the next 12 points to take a 16-4 lead just three minutes later.
McDaniel trimmed the deficit to 16-8 but the Mules put together another 12-5 run to take a 15-point lead midway through the period.
Four points from Foelber helped the Green Terror pull within nine but Brian Frankoski hit one of eight Muhlenberg 3-pointers to stretch the lead back to double digits, where it remained for the duration of the game.
The Mules, who cooled off to 50 percent shooting in the second half, held McDaniel to 25.8 percent in the second half.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
