McDaniel works overtime to down Franklin & Marshall, 82-78

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Brett Foelber (Sykesville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) tallied 19 of his season-best 25 points after the intermission to lead McDaniel to an 82-78 overtime victory over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
With the win, the Green Terror (12-5, 7-3 CC) has registered its most wins in any season since 1990-91 (12-12) and records its first three-game over the Diplomats (10-7, 5-5 CC) since winning four straight between 1960 and 1963.
Kevin Henry (Potomac, Md./Bullis School) and Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) also reached double digits for McDaniel with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
James McNally, the reigning CC Co-Player of the Week, led Franklin & Marshall with 22 points while Mike Baker and Mitch Rhyner added 12 and 11, respectively.
Trailing by as many as 10 with 2:56 to play in regulation, the Diplomats tallied 14 of the game’s final 18 points to force the first overtime game in the series since 1973.
A Baker putback at the 2:31 mark started the comeback, trimming the deficit to 63-55.
After Anthony Brooks made it a seven-point game, Foelber hit a pair of free throws with 1:30 showing to stretch the lead back to nine.
Rhyner responded with a layup 10 seconds later. Two missed free throws by the Green Terror and a pair of Daniel Selig charity tosses trimmed the deficit to 65-60 with 37.4 seconds on the clock.
Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County) hit the second of two free throws to make it a six-point game.
Selig and Henry exchanged 1-for-2 showings at the stripe before Chris Sullivan nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing with 1.8 seconds on the clock to cut the deficit to three.
Following a Franklin & Marshall timeout, McDaniel attempted to bounce the ball off the back of the defender to run out the clock but Selig came up with the ball and called a timeout with 0.4 seconds on the clock.
Sullivan inbounded to Rhyner in the right corner and he swished the triple to force the extra session.
Knotted at 71 in overtime, Jones converted a driving layup with 3:03 on the clock and the Green Terror converted all nine of its free throws in overtime to keep its hold on third place in the conference standings.
Behind six points from McNally, the Diplomats opened the game with a 17-5 run to build its largest lead just 5 minutes, 55 seconds into the game.
Trailing 31-20 with 2:55 to play in the opening half, Foelber canned a layup and Henry drained a 3-pointer to pull the hosts within 31-25 at the break.
Eight points from Foelber helped McDaniel take its first lead of the game 2:36 into the second half at 35-33.
Clinging to a 54-53 advantage with 5:11 to play in regulation, Henry hit another trey to spark a 9-0 blast over the next 2:15.
Foelber completed his first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds while Finch added eight, including five on the offensive end.
The Green Terror went 26-for-38 from the free-throw line compared to a 12-for-17 showing from the Diplomats.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
