Muhlenberg holds on to defeat McDaniel, 61-57
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Four Muhlenberg players scored in double figures in a 61-57 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Saturday.
Chris Prior (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led all scorers with 17 points for the Green Terror (12-7, 7-5 CC), who were outscored by the Mules (9-10, 7-5) by a 41-23 margin in the first half.
Muhlenberg jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first 1:52 of the contest and never looked back.
Leading 17-12, Mike Bernardini, who was one of three Mules to tally 11 points, converted a layup to spark a 24-6 run that spanned just over nine minutes.
Bernardini and Darrell Roth capped the burst with back-to-back 3-pointers.
Five straight points from Kevin Henry (Potomac, Md./Bullis School) drew McDaniel within 41-23 at the intermission before Muhlenberg stretched the lead back out to 46-25 two minutes into the second half.
Four straight points from Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) ignited a 22-4 rally over the next nearly 12 minutes to pull the Green Terror within 50-47 with 6:19 to play but the squad could get no closer en route to its second straight loss.
Henry and Finch added 14 and 12 points, respectively, for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action at Swarthmore on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
