CARLISLE, Pa. – Brett Foelber (Sykesville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) led four McDaniel players in double figures with 19 points in a 73-71 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Wednesday.
Chris Prior (Westminster, Md./Westminster) added 17 points, including four straight in the final 1:24 to turn a one-point deficit into a victory for the Green Terror (14-8, 9-6 CC), assuring the squad of its first winning season since 1984-85.
Kizmahr Grell led the Red Devils (11-10, 7-8 CC) with a game-high 22 points.
With his team trailing 56-49 with 12:26 to play on two Prior free throws, Grell scored five straight points to spark a 19-9 burst to give Dickinson its first lead of the game.
With 3:44 to play, Foelber knocked down a pair of free throws to pull the visitors within 68-67 before a Prior three-point play put McDaniel back in front with 1:24 on the clock.
With 1:00 on the clock, Prior hit 1 of 2 free throws to stretch the lead to three.
Grell and Kevin Henry (Potomac, Md./Bullis School) exchanged single free throws before Grell drove the length of the floor for a driving layup with two seconds on the clock.
Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) hit the first of two free throws before bouncing the ball off the back iron to secure the Green Terror’s first win at Dickinson since Dec. 6, 1994.
After Foelber and Grell exchanged treys to open the game, Foelber made it back-to-back triples and Finch hit a pair of free throws to give McDaniel an 8-3 lead 2 minutes, 40 seconds into the game.
A Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County) basket-and-foul pushed the lead to 32-22 at the 3:27 mark before Dickinson netted seven of the half’s final eight points to cut the deficit to 33-29 at the intermission.
Jones finished with 14 points while Finch had 11 points and six rebounds.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
