Gettysburg rolls to program record for wins, 78-57 victory over McDaniel
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Dan Capkin netted 19 points, including the 1,000 th of his career, to lead Gettysburg to a 78-57 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Saturday.
Andrews Powers matched Capkin for game-high honors with 19 points to lead the Bullets (21-3, 16-2 CC) , who set a new program record for wins in a season with 21 and enter next weekend’s CC tournament at Ursinus as the No. 2 seed on a 10-game winning streak.
Brett Foelber (Sykesville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) led the Green Terror (15-10, 10-8 CC), the fourth seed in upcoming playoffs, with 15 points. McDaniel will play the No. 5 seed Dickinson, who defeated Franklin & Marshall by a 60-48 margin to earn the final spot in the tournament, on Wednesday. Game time will be determined on Monday.
After a Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) layup out of a timeout put the Green Terror on top 11-8 with 15:30 remaining in the first half, Joe Spierenburg responded with a layup of his own to spark a 14-0 run over the next 3:03 to stretch the lead to double figures with 12:10 on the clock.
Leading 35-22 with 5:53 remaining in the opening stanza, the Bullets reeled off the game’s next nine points to stretch the advantage to 22.
Leading 46-27 at the break, the Gettysburg lead swelled to as many as 29 on two different occasions en route to the 21-point victory.
