McDaniel men’s basketball to battle for CC title; Green Terror making first post-season appearance in 13 years

 
 
 
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host Dickinson in the first-round game of the 2008 Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball championship on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
            The fourth-seeded Greeen Terror (15-10, 10-8 CC), making its first tournament appearance since 1995, faces the fifth-seeded Red Devils (13-11, 9-9 CC), who are making their first playoff appearance since 1997. It is the first time the two teams have met in the CC playoffs. The winner advances to Saturday’s semifinals at top-seeded Ursinus (23-2, 18-0 CC), ranked 17th in the latest d3hoops.com Division III poll, at 1 p.m.
            The day’s first semifinal pits second-seeded Gettysburg (21-3, 16-2 CC) against third-seeded Johns Hopkins (16-9, 12-6 CC), slated to begin at 3 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the day’s first game.
            The championship game will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m.
            Admission for all games is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Youths 12 and under as well as students from participating institutions, who present their ID, are free.
            The tournament’s champion will earn the CC’s automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on Thursday, Mar. 6. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday morning.
            McDaniel is seeking its first CC championship and berth in the NCAA tournament.   Dickinson is in search of its second conference crown while Ursinus goes for its fourth CC title. Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins seek their third conference title.
            Brett Foelber (Sykesville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) leads the team in scoring (12.0 points per game). Chris Prior (Westminster, Md./Westminster) leads the team in rebounding (9.9 rpg) while ranking second in scoring (11.3 ppg). Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) is third in scoring (9.3 ppg) and leads the team in assists (48) and steals (37).
