McDaniel wins Gettysburg Spring Invitational; Butler claims second
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gerry Butler (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) shot a two-over par 74 to finish in second place overall and lead McDaniel to a first-place finish at the Gettysburg Spring Invitational in men’s golf action on Tuesday.
The Green Terror won the team title with a score of 310, outdistancing second-place Susquehanna by six strokes.
Butler matched Scott Cruff’s 74 but finished second on tiebreaking procedures.
In windy conditions on a wet course, Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills, Pa./Truman) finished one stroke behind the leading pair, carding a 75 to finish in third place by himself.
Steve Meier (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum School) added a round of 78 to finish in a tie for fifth place while Zach LaVoie (Princeton, N.J./Pinedale) and Keith Mazurek, Jr. (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) rounded out the McDaniel scores with a 78 and 91, respectively.
Alex Campbell (Howell, N.J./Wall) and Chris Merrill (Kingsville, Md./Fallston) competed as individuals for the Green Terror. Campbell finished in a tie for seventh, carding an 81 while Merrill shot a 101.
McDaniel returns to action at its own spring invitational at The Bridges Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday. Tee time is 8:30 a.m. both days.
