Two-goal first half carries Gettysburg to 3-2 win over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Five different Gettysburg players tallied points in a 3-2 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s soccer action on Saturday. The Bullets (11-6, 6-3 CC) scored twice in the first half to secure a spot in the upcoming CC playoffs and defeat the Green Terror (7-7-4, 1-6-2 CC) for the third straight season.
Ryan Shaffer opened the scoring at the 15:52 mark, staking Gettysburg to a 1-0 lead.
In the 38th minute, Brian Conroy sent a high pass toward Ian Forster,who headed the ball in to double the advantage at halftime.
Joseph Potucek (Germantown, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) scored off a Paul Seegren (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) pass from downfield to trim the deficit in half.
At the 67-minute mark, the Bullets stretched the lead back to two when Pat Brown found Chris Bayon for the marker.
With 2:51 remaining, Bill Drukenmiller (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) fired one in off a David Cross (Odenton, Md./Arundel) to draw the Green Terror back within one and set the final margin.
Matt Langston made five stops for Gettysburg while Christian Maisel (Eldersburg, MD/Boys Latin) had four in his final game for McDaniel.
