Wineke’s second-half goal gives McDaniel win
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown, Md./North Carroll) scored the only goal of McDaniel’s 1-0 win over Western Connecticut State in non-conference men’s soccer action on Sunday.
The Colonials (3-1) outshot the Green Terror (4-1) by a 12-8 margin but could not find the back of the net. McDaniel senior goalkeeper Christian Maisel (Eldersburg, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) recorded five saves on the day and his first collegiate assist.
After a scoreless first 59 minutes, Maiselbeat a Western Connecticut attacker to the ball, picked it up and punted a the long pass through the middle of the field to Wineke, who dodged a defender and putting the ball in the upper-right corner for the win.
Daniel Michalowski recorded two stops for the Colonials.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Juniata on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
