Dokas gives McDaniel 2-1 overtime victory over Goucher
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Donald Dokas (Sykesvile, Md./Loyola Blakefield) scored with 2:47 remaining in the first overtime to lift McDaniel to a 2-1 win over Goucher in non-conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday.
Nat Keller tallied for the Gophers (3-4), who were whistled for 18 fouls and three yellow cards while the host Green Terror (6-1-1) had 18 fouls and two yellow cards in a physical second half that saw 22 combined fouls and all five of the cards.
After a scoreless first half, Goucher converted its first attempt of the second half just 2:11 into the period.
After a misplayed cross from the left sideline, Keller collected the ball and tapped it into a wide-open right side of the net.
Just shy of 20 minutes later off one of McDaniel’s nine second-half corner kicks, Brandon Smith (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) played a ball back to Paul Seegren (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty), who headed the ball into the lower-left corner to even the game at 1.
After seven minutes of overtime played mostly in the midfield, the Green Terror batted a ball in off its 13th corner of the game that the defense played out. Dokas sent a low liner back in from 25 yards out and into the back of the net for the game-winner.
Christian Maisel (Eldersburg, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) made three saves for McDaniel while Justin Holbrook had four for the Gophers
The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
