McDaniel nabs first conference win with 5-2 triumph over Washington
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Bill Drukenmiller (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) scored two goals on two shots to pace McDaniel in a 5-2 win over Washington (Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s soccer action on Saturday.
Eight different players recorded a point for the Green Terror (7-2-2, 1-1-2 CC), who recorded its first conference win of the season and outshot the Shoremen (3-7, 0-4 CC) by a slim 15-14 margin.
Deadlocked at 1 after Druckenmiller and Tony Armiger exchanged goals in the first 14 minutes, Brandon Smith (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) put McDaniel for good on top just 1:30 before halftime when he headed in a cross from Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown, Md./North Carroll)
James Cosby (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) and Drukenmiller stretched the lead to 4-1 in the first 20 minutes of the second half before Wes Schantz cut the deficit to 4-2 with an unassisted marker at the 76:26 mark.
Dodging two defenders and placing his shot into the lower-right corner, Joseph Potucek (Germantown, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) capped the scoring with 2:22 to play.
Christian Maisel (Eldersburg, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) recorded seven saves for the Green Terror while Marc Petrucci had one for Washington.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Villa Julie on Monday. Game time is 4 p.m.
