No. 16 Franklin & Marshall takes defensive battle over McDaniel
LANCASTER, Pa. – A Charlie Welch penalty kick in the 38th minute was the difference in a 1-0 victory by No. 16 Franklin & Marshall over visiting McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s soccer action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (7-3-3, 1-2-2 CC) held a slim 7-6 edge in shot while the Diplomats (12-0, 5-0 CC) finished with a slender 3-2 advantage in corner kicks,
Zach Zamek made four saves for Franklin & Marshall while Christian Maisel (Eldersburg, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) had three stops for McDaniel in a game in which neither goalkeeper saw much action.
With 9:38 remaining before halftime, Welch was awarded a penalty kick which he converted for the game’s only score.
The Green Terror returns to action at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
