Big first half propels Ursinus to 3-1 win over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Jean Carlo Cordova tallied one of Ursinus’ three goals in a 3-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s soccer action on Saturday.
David Cross (Odenton, Md./Arundel) tallied the lone goal for the Green Terror (2-5-1, 0-1-1 CC), who finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots.
The Bears (5-4, 1-1 CC), who had three different players score, held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Christopher Polster tallied unassisted 7 minutes, 37 seconds into the contest to give Ursinus an early 1-0 lead before George Belaires doubled the advantage 11 minutes later.
Off a McDaniel corner in the 20th minute, Cross finished to pull the Green Terror within one.
Cordova stretched the lead back to two off a short pass from Abe Cabello at the 29:04 mark.
Benjamin Knight (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) made one save in a half of action. Michael Alfieri made seven saves Ursinus.
The Green Terror returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
