McDaniel sweeps doubleheader at Mary Baldwin
STAUNTON, Va. – Karyn Curley (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg) recorded four hits and eight RBIs to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader sweep of Mary Baldwin in non-conference softball action on Sunday.
The Green Terror (2-2) took the opener 8-3 before a 10-run second inning keyed a 17-3 win in game two.
Taylor Barela led the Squirrels (0-3) with a 3-for-4 outing in game one.
Christina Morley (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) went the distance in the opener, notching five strikeouts for her win of the season. Samantha Reigel (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown) and Lauren Shue (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) combined for a one-hitter in the five-inning nightcap.
Knotted at 1-all in game one, Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) led off the visitor third with a single. A Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) and Diana Rosemier (Damascus, Md./Damascus) followed with a walk and single, respectively, to load the bases.
With one out, Emily Trainor (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) drew a walk to force home Wildsin and break the deadlock.
A Mary Baldwin error allowed Elfert to score, stretching the lead to 3-1.
After the teams exchanged single tallies in each of the next two half-innings, McDaniel used five hits and an error in the seventh to push the lead to six.
Rosemier led off the frame with a single. With runners at second and third with one out after an error and double steal, Curley singled to drive in a pair.
A Brittany King (Baltimore, Md./Mt. Carmel) home run made it a 8-2 game.
Ogburn led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to set the final margin.
In game two, three walks keyed a three-run first inning for the Green Terror.
A walk, error and Christie Hamilton two-run single allowed Mary Baldwin to trim the deficit to one.
Six second-inning walks coupled with a pair of Curley two-run doubles ignited the 10-run frame.
McDaniel tacked on four runs in the top of the fifth
The Green Terror returns to action for 10 games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., over spring break. McDaniel opens its southern swing against Utica and Framingham State on Saturday. The first game begins at 11 a.m.
