WESTMINSTER, Md. – Diana Rosemier (Damascus, Md./Damascus) recorded three hits to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader split with Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.
The Bears (20-7, 7-1 CC) took the opener 4-1 behind three sixth-inning runs before the Green Terror (8-17, 3-6 CC) countered in game two with four sixth-innings runs of its own to key a 5-1 win.
In the nightcap, Emily Trainor (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) roped a single up the middle with one out in the bottom of the first.
With two outs, Brittany King (Baltimore, Md./Mt. Carmel) poked a single through the right side. A throwing error allowed Trainor to score and stake McDaniel to an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Lauren Toomey (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) dropped a one-out single into left center.
With two outs, Kate Phelan’s (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) single to the same area put runners at the corners for Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster), who followed with a single of her own to plate Toomey and double the advantage.
Kristina Skinner (Westminster, Md./Westminster) dealt the big blow of the inning, blasting a three-run home run to push the lead to 5-0.
A walk and Shannon McDonald pinch-hit double in the top of the seventh set the final margin.
In the opener, Ursinus plated an unearned run in the third inning before a dropped popup and Karyn Curley (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg) RBI single in the fourth knotted the game at 1-all.
Singles from Kaitlyn Sutherland and Sarah Hennessey sandwiched around a Jamie Miles double contributed to a three-run sixth.
Lauren Davis went the distance in both games, striking out a combined 13 batters.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Ursinus on Sunday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
