McDaniel men finish seventh at Franklin & Marshall Invitational, women take ninth
LANCASTER, Pa. – Chris Reed (Bowie, Md./Bowie) recorded a pair of top three finishes to lead the McDaniel men’s swimming team to a seventh-place finish at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
The Green Terror tallied 203 points. Rowan won the nine-team meet with 680 points. On the women’s side, McDaniel was ninth in the 10-team field with 126 points while Kutztown took team title with 686.5 points.
Reed finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.22 while taking third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.11.
Stephen Gomez (Charlottesville, Va./Albermarle) added two individual top seven finishes, taking fifth in the 400 IM (4:28.84) and seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:02.41).
For the women, Whitney Scheiren (Yardley, Pa./Pennington) led the way, recording top 10 showings in both butterfly events. She touched seventh in the 200 (2:20.69) and 10th in the 100 (1:02.95). Scheiren also finished 15th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.58.
Gaby Cifuentes (Princeton, N.J./Princeton), Amanda Burke (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) and Melissa Steinberg (Westminster, Md./Westminer) rounded out the top 15 finishes for the Green Terror.
Gifuentes was 14th in the 200 free with a time of 2:06.29 while Burke and Steinberg were 13th (2:28.33) and 15th (2:31.50) in the 200 butterfly.
McDaniel returns to action at Elizabethtown on Jan. 15, 2008. Meet time is 6 p.m.
