Elizabethtown sweeps McDaniel
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Stephen Gomez (Charlottesville, Va./Albermmarle) recorded a triple-win day for the McDaniel men in the 101-80 loss at Elizabethtown in non-conference swimming action on Tuesday. The Green Terror (1-4) men won five of 11 events, including Gomez’s three wins and a double-win performance from Chris Reed’s (Bowie, Md./Bowie). The Blue Jays (5-6) were led by a three-win outing from Chris Miller.
On the women’s side, the Blue Jays (5-6), who got three wins from Jenny Brizek and Lindsay Riley, took the win over the Green Terror (1-4), 107-93.
Gomez took first in the 200 free (1:54.28), 200 butterfly (2:04.25) and 500 free (5:10.17).
Reed’s double-win performance came in the 200 IM and 200 breast with times of 2:07.77 and 2:20.82, respectively.
Gaby Cifuentes (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) was a double-winner for McDaniel. Cifuentes touched first in the 1,000 free and 500 free with times of 11:44.30 and 5:45.16, respectively.
Whitney Scheiren (Yardley, Pa./Pennington) and Amanda Burke (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) each added two-win outings, including as part of the 200-free relay in a time of 1:50.77.
Scheiren also touched first in the 200 IM (2:23.71) while Burke won the 200 fly (2:33.43).
McDaniel returns to action on Saturday at Dickinson. Meet time is 1 p.m.
