Washington sweeps McDaniel in dual finale

 
 
 
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kathy Gerhart and Megan Morse recorded three wins apiece to lead Washington (Md.) to a 69-26 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s swimming action on Saturday.
            The Shorewomen (11-1, 5-1 CC) won all nine of the 11 events. Whitney Schieren (Yardley, Pa./Pennington) led the Green Terror (2-8, 2-5 CC) with the only individual victory.
            On the men’s side, the Shoremen (6-4, 2-3 CC), behind a three-win day from Matt Violette, also downed McDaniel (1-8, 1-5 CC), 67-28.
            Stephen Gomez (Charlottesville, Va./Albermmarle) and Chris Reed (Bowie, Md./Bowie) each won once for the Green Terror.
            Gomez won the 1000 free with a time of 10:14.41 while Reed touched first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.65.
            Violette notched individual wins in the 200 free (1:53.66) and 100 backstroke (57.18) before teaming with Dan Wentzel, Eddie Raleigh and Tim Beadell for a victory in the 200 free relay with a combined time of 1:33.98.
            Wentzel added an individual win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:16.29 while Alex Thomas also won twice with victories in the 200 IM (2:07.04) and as part of the 200 medley relay team, which won in a time of 1:41.47.
            Chris Soper, also a member of the 200 medley relay, added two wins in the 50 (22.19) and 100 (49.93) freestyle events.
            On the women’s side, Schieren touched first in the 100 buttefly with a time of 1:03.65 and was part of the 200 free relay, which combined to swim a time of 1:49.94.
            Gerhart and Morse teamed with Amy Smith and Liz Thomas to open the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:56.38).
            Gerhart also won the 100 free (157.15) and 200 IM (2:19.74) while Morse touched first in the 50 free (25.19) and 500 free (5:23.82).
            Thomas tallied an individual win in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.97).
            McDaniel concludes the season at the CC Championships hosted by Franklin & Marshall next weekend. Action on Friday begins at 11:30 a.m.
