McDaniel outlasts Swarthmore
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kristen Nuckles (Sussex, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) tallied 53 assists, three service aces and 11 digs to help McDaniel to a 3-1 win over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.
Jen Wang led the Garnet (6-12, 1-2 CC) with 25 kills, while Katie Seibel (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) paced the Green Terror (8-4, 3-0 CC) tallied 19.
McDaniel took a 2-0 lead in the match, winning 30-27 and 32-30, before falling 30-19 in game three. The Green Terror finished off its fifth straight victory with a 30-25 game-four win.
Taylor Hergott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) recorded 16 kills and four total blocks for McDaniel, who had eight team blocks in the match. Sara Hanlon (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) had a team-high five total blocks.
Wang finished off one of two Swarthmore double-doubles with 16 digs. She also added four blocks. Johanna Bond had the other double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.
Defensively, Erin Heaney had a match-high 32 digs for the Garnet while Alice Hardwick (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the Green Terror with 19.
Swarthmore recorded 71 kills and 87 digs compared to a 67-52 effort for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action at home on Wednesday against Franklin & Marshall. Match time is 7 p.m.
