Herrgott leads McDaniel to 3-1 win over Franklin & Marshall

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) recorded 21 kills and eight total blocks, including five solos, to lead McDaniel to a 3-1 win over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
As a team, the Green Terror (9-4, 4-0 CC) recorded 18 total blocks in its first win over the Diplomats (13-7, 3-2 CC) since 1999.
Lanni Reisinger (Lemoyne, Pa./Cedar Cliff) added 10 kills and 13 digs while Deanne Lehr (New Oxford, Pa./Bermudian Springs) and Alice Hardwick (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) steadied the defense with 25 digs apiece.
Margot Phelan led Franklin & Marshall with 19 kills and 21 digs. Pamela Horner added 26 digs.
After watching a 26-21 lead evaporate into a 27-all deadlock behind a pair of Danielle Diamond kills, the Green Terror got a pair of kills from Herrgott to finish off a 31-29 game-one win.
In game two, Lehr served eight straight points to turn a slim 7-6 advantage into a 15-6 lead. Lehr finished off the 30-13 win with one of her five aces after serving the five points before that. Herrgott had three kills during the stretch while Virginia Dale (Middletown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) added the other two.
Game three was back-and-forth the whole way with neither team opening up a lead larger than three points the entire game. Kills by Beatriz Cervantes and Horner finished off a 37-35 Diplomat victory and forced game four.
After four Franklin & Marshall errors allowed the Green Terror to open up an early 5-0 lead and force a timeout, the Diplomats crawled back into the game before tying it at 21.
Seven straight Lehr serves keyed by three straight Herrgott kills stretched the lead back to 26-21 and McDaniel held on, 30-23.
Kristen Nuckles (Sussex, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) added 36 assists and 14 digs for McDaniel. Sara Hanlon (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) added seven total blocks, including four solos.
The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m.
