Johns Hopkins knocks McDaniel from ranks of conference unbeatens
BALTIMORE, Md. – Allison Cappelare recorded 13 kills and a team-high 21 digs to lead Johns Hopkins to a 3-1 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
After the Green Terror (15-7, 8-1 CC) took game one by a 30-21 score, the Blue Jays (22-4, 8-1 CC) came back to take three straight (30-22, 30-22, 30-27) to forge a three-way tie atop the conference standings heading into the final day of play on Saturday.
Katie Seibel (Finksburg, Md./Westminster), the reigning CC co-Player of the Week with Cappelare, led McDaniel with her own double-double, notching 17 kills to go with 10 digs.
Trailing two games to one in the match and 22-18 in the fourth game, a Lanni Reisinger (Lemoyne, Pa./Cedar Cliff) kill and two service points pulled the visitors within 22-21.
Trailing 25-24, Seibel put the Green Terror on top 26-25 with back-to-back kills.
Knotted at 26, Adrienne Young put together two straight kills before the teams exchanged attack errors to make it 29-27.
Cappelare finished off the match with her final kill off the 40th Amanda Lewis assist.
Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) added 11 kills while Alice Hardwick (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) and Deanne Lehr (New Oxford, Pa./Bermudian Springs) steadied the defense with 22 and 21 digs, respectively. Herrgott added five total blocks.
Youngand Lewis had 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Kim Jackanich had 20 digs.
The Green Terror conclude the regular season at home against Haverford, the other team in the three-way tie for the conference lead, on Saturday. Match time is 12 p.m.
