McDaniel finishes fourth at own invitational
ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Valerie Saucier (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) shot a two-day score of 169 to lead McDaniel to a fourth-place showing at its own spring invitational in women’s golf action on Saturday and Sunday at The Bridges Golf Club.
After posting a season-low round of 83 on Saturday, Saucier carded an 86 on Sunday to finish third and register a season-low two-day total and key the Green Terror’s two-day score of 758. McDaniel posted a team score of 379 in both rounds.
Allegheny won the team title with a two-round total of 690, posting a 332 on Sunday after coming in with a 358 in windy and cold conditions on Saturday. Lisa Coleman took the individual crown for Allegheny, carding a tournament-low 75 on Sunday after keying her team’s first-round lead with an 87.
Kutztown placed second with a score of 699 (366-333) while Nazareth was third with a score of 730 (365-365). New York University rounded out the field one stroke behind the Green Terror, posting a 378 on Saturday and 381 on Sunday.
Jennie Weiner (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) shot a 94 on Sunday after registering a 98 on Saturday to finish with a 192.
In her first action after missing the entire fall, Nicole Cristy (Towson, Md.) posting a 199, carding a 100 in the first round and 99 in round two.
Elyse Massa (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) followed up her first-round score of 106 with a second-round 100 for a two-day total of 206.
Tara Fredericks (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield) and Colleen McLaughlin (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Ridge and Latin) competed as individuals, registering scores of 252 (117-135) and 254 (135-119), respectively.
McDaniel returns to action at the Kutztown Invitational on Apr. 18.
