McDaniel women’s lacrosse to battle for CC title
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host Muhlenberg in the first-round game of the 2008 Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse championship on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m. The fourth-seeded Green Terror (9-6, 5-4 CC) faces the fifth-seeded Mules (11-4, 5-4 CC) will meet for the first-time ever in the CC tournament. The winner advances to Saturday’s semifinals at top-seeded Franklin & Marshall (14-1, 9-0 CC), ranked No. 3 in the latest IWLCA/Under Armor Division III poll, at 1 p.m.
The day’s second semifinal pits second-seeded Gettysburg (15-2, 8-1 CC), ranked No. 4 in Division III, against third-seeded Dickinson (11-4, 7-2 CC), ranked 13th in the latest national poll.
The championship game will be held at Franklin & Marshall on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The tournament’s champion will earn the CC’s automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III tournament, which begins on May 7. The field will be announced late on Sunday, May 4.
The Green Terror is seeking its first conference title. This is the fourth tournament appearance for McDaniel in the last five seasons.
In the regular-season meeting between the Green Terror and the Mules, McDaniel posted a 22-19 victory in Allentown on Saturday.
Sophomore Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led McDaniel during the regular season with 56 goals and is four shy of tying the single-season program record. She has also matched the program record with 42 draw controls.
Senior Kerrie Wuenschel (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) and junior Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) added 32 and 29 goals, respectively.
Senior Lee Oliver (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) led the defense with 34 ground balls while Bear and Erin McDonnell (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) each picked up 30.
