Three earn IWLCA all-region honors; Ferruzzi tabbed to first team
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Three members of the McDaniel College women’s lacrosse team have been named to the 2008 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Metro region team, released on Thursday.
Junior Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) earned first-team honors while sophomore Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Lee Oliver (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) were named to the second team.
Ferruzzi, a midfielder, earned her first all-region honor after earning first-team All-Centennial Conference (CC) honors. She ranked third on the team with 31 goals and 38 points. She also ranked among the team leaders in ground balls (37), draw controls (37) and caused turnovers (12).
Baer, an attacker and second-team All-CC selection, finished the season as the team leader in nearly every category. In addition to setting a program record with 63 goals in her first season with the program, she also paced the team with 75 points. She led the team with 18 caused turnovers and a 47 draw controls while ranking second with 33 ground balls.
Oliver, a defender, earned her second straight second-team all-region honor after pacing the team with 37 ground balls. She was also among the team leaders with 10 caused turnovers.
McDaniel (10-7, 5-4 CC) advanced to its second straight CC semifinals before falling to top-seeded and national runner-up Franklin & Marshall.
