McDaniel women’s lacrosse to battle for CC title
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will travel to Carlisle, Pa., for the first-round game of the 2009 Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse championship on Wednesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
The fifth-seeded Green Terror (9-6, 5-4 CC) faces the fourth-seeded Mules (10-6, 6-3 CC) will meet for the second time in the CC tournament. The winner advances to Saturday’s semifinals at the No. 1 seed.
Franklin & Marshall (14-1, 8-0 CC), ranked No. 3 in the latest IWLCA/Under Armor Division III poll, and Gettysburg (13-1, 8-0 CC), ranked fifth in the same poll, will meet in the regular-season finale on Tuesday in Lancaster. The winner will earn the top seed and host the tournament semifinals and final.
The winner of Wednesday’s first round will take on the eventual top seed in Saturday’s first semifinal at 1 p.m.
The day’s second semifinal pits the loser of Tuesday’s matchup against third-seeded Muhlenberg (10-3, 6-3 CC) 45 minutes upon the conclusion of the first game.
The championship game will be held at the same site on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The tournament’s champion will earn the CC’s automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III tournament, which begins on May 6. The field will be announced late on Sunday, May 3.
The Green Terror is seeking its first conference title. This is the fifth tournament appearance for McDaniel in the last six seasons.
In the regular-season meeting between the Green Terror and the Red Devils, Dickinson posted an 8-7 victory in Westminster last Wednesday.
Junior Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led McDaniel during the regular season with a program-record 72 goals. She has also set a new program-best mark with 60 draw controls.
Senior Jennifer Stone (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) and sophomore Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) added 29 and 20 goals, respectively. Senior Lindsey McDonald (Germantown, Md./Damascus) led the team with 38 assists.
