Late first-half surge carries Ursinus to 11-10 win over McDaniel

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Kaitlin Glenn scored two of her three goals during a 6-0 run that turned a 5-2 deficit into a 7-5 lead, carrying Ursinus to an 11-10 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse action on Saturday.
Elizabeth Cannon recorded an assist to go with a second hat trick for the Bears (3-5, 1-1 CC), who got 18 saves from Allyson Shicora in the win.
Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) paced the Green Terror (5-3, 1-2 CC) with a natural hat trick of her own.
Trailing 7-6 at the intermission on a Jennifer Stone (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) free-position goal 51 seconds before the end of the first half, Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) and Kerrie Wuenschel (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) finished solo runs to give McDaniel an 8-7 lead just 5:44 into the second half.
Tallies a minute and a half apart from Cannon and Glenn turned that one-goal deficit into a one-goal edge for the hosts with 17:07 to play.
At the 44:12 mark, Catie Cameron converted a third Ursinus free-position goal to push the lead to two.
Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Wuenschel sandwiched Cannon’s third marker to set the final margin with just shy of seven minutes on the clock.
Kelly Scheler (Forest Hills, Md./C. Milton Wright) staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead 1:36 into the game before Lindsey Urban and Lisa Clark gave Ursinus a 2-1 lead at the 4:56 mark.
A Ferruzzi solo run evened the game at 2-all with 6:23 elapsed.
After Hopkins’ three tallies capped a 4-0 burst over a 6-minute, 48-second span to put the visitors on top 5-2, Glenn finished a solo run at the 20:43 mark to spark the six-goal flurry.
Glenn capped the burst with a second unassisted tally at the 28:29 mark.
The Green Terror returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Monday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
