Shumaker takes over the reins of the Green Terror women’s soccer program in 2007, inheriting a program that went 7-10 in 2006.
Shumaker comes to McDaniel after a successful stint at Winters Mill. The only coach in the history of Winters Mill High School since the school opened in 2002, he grew the girls’ soccer program from the ground-up. After playing a JV schedule in 2002, Shumaker guided the Falcons to a 26-26-8 record in the last four years of varsity status.
Prior to his move across Carroll County, Shumaker served as the varsity girls’ soccer coach at Westminster from 1997-2001. During his five years there, Shumaker amassed a 44-28-6 record, including leading the Owls to a 4A state championship in 1999 – the same year he earned Maryland State Coach of the Year honors from the Maryland Association Coaches of Soccer.
During his tenure at Westminster, he developed players who went on to play at numerous Division I programs, including Maryland, Penn State and Arkansas.
Shumaker, a science teacher at Winters Mill, earned a bachelors of science degree in physics at Frostburg in 1994, graduating Cum Laude. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in curriculum and design from Scranton.
