Lebanon Valley makes lone goal stand in win over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Elyse Kirkhoff scored in the 79th minute to lead Lebanon Valley to a 1-0 win over McDaniel in non-conference women’s soccer action on Thursday.
Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made four saves for the Green Terror (1-7), who were outshot by the Flying Dutchwomen (6-3), 10-7.
After more than 78 minutes of back-and-forth play mostly between the boxes, Kirkhoff one-touched a high floater from about 30 yards out over the head of Hollinger and into the top-right corner of the net.
McDaniel’s best scoring opportunity came off the second-half kick when Kelly Neel (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and Sarah Wallace (Gosheen, Mass./Hampshire Regional) executed a nearly flawless give-and-go but Stacy Ganley intercepted the ball near the top of the box to thwart the quick-strike opportunity.
Ganley, playing her first action in goal for Lebanon Valley, had one save.
The Green Terror held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
