Big second half carries McDaniel to 5-0 win over Notre Dame (Md.)
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Lisa Jurd (Columbia, Md./Hammond) scored her first two collegiate goals in McDaniel’s 5-0 win over Notre Dame (Md.) in non-conference women’s soccer action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (2-9) controlled play for nearly all of the 90 minutes, firing off 33 shots while the Gators (2-9) had just two – both in the waning moments of the game.
Despite taking 15 first-half shots, McDaniel was not able to find the back of the net until Rachel McCallum (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) waltzed through the defense and released a low liner in the 37th minute to stake the Green Terror to a 1-0 halftime advantage.
Six minutes, 49 seconds into the second half Kelly Neel (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) one-timed a high floater from 15 yards out to double the advantage before Jurd headed home a Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) cross just 1:17 later.
In the 59th minute, Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished a solo run and blasted a hard shot home for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
Jurd finished the scoring in the 64th minute, tapping home a Sarah Wallace (Gosheen, Mass./Hampshire Regional) feed.
The Green Terror added 10 corner kicks to Notre Dame’s one.
McDaniel, who entered the game with just 10 goals on 69 shots all year, returns to action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
