First-half goal proves difference in Gettysburg’s 2-1 win over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Erin Miller scored in the 24th minute to stake Gettysburg to a 1-0 halftime lead en route to a 2-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s soccer action on Wednesday.
Kelly Burke added a goal for the Bulletes (5-9-1, 4-3 CC) to stretch the lead to 2-0 before Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) tallied for the Green Terror (2-13, 1-6 CC) to set the final margin.
Controlling play with a 14-2 shot advantage in the first half, Miller finished a Shaina Wright cross in the 24th minute for the 1-0 halftime lead.
Just 6:41 after the break, Burke finished a solo run.
Seven minutes, 5 seconds later, Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) feed Scheler, who scored in the bottom-right corner from a tough angle.
Gettysburg finished with a 21-4 advantage in shots and a 13-2 edge in corner kicks.
Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made 11 saves for McDaniel while Danielle St. Pierre, the reigning CC Defensive Player of the Week, made two stops at the other end.
The Green Terror returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
