Big second half lifts McDaniel to 3-1 win over Washington
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) tallied a pair of goals to lead McDaniel to a 3-1 win over Washington (Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s soccer action on Saturday.
After the Shorewomen (1-15, 0-8 CC) took a 1-0 lead into the break, the Green Terror (3-13, 2-6 CC) scored three second-half goals to get the victory.
Baer beat her defender in the 66th minute to knot the game at 1 before Sarah Wallace (Gosheen, Mass./Hampshire Regional) finished a Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) feed nearly 10 minutes later to give McDaniel the lead for good.
Wallace connected with Baer for an insurance goal in the 86th minute.
Megan Russell scored for Washington, finishing a Sarah Yarbrough assist.
Each team had 11 shots while the Green Terror held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and Caroline Grier each had two saves in goal.
McDaniel returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
