WESTMINSTER, Md. – Allie Zazzali registered two goals and an assist off the bench to lead No. 7 Johns Hopkins to an 8-0 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s soccer action on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays (14-0-3, 9-0 CC), who entered the game having already locked up the top seed in next weekend’s CC tournament, exploded for six second-half goals, turning a 2-0 halftime game into their most offensive day of the season.
The Green Terror (5-11, 2-6 CC) was limited to just five shots in the game but got 14 saves from their two freshmen goalkeepers. Kristin Cochran (Jessup, Md./Hammond), making her first collegiate start, had six saves in the first half while Lauren Strumsky (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had eight in the second half.
In the 13th minute, Jenn Paulucci played a ball through to Erica Suter, who shot from 18 yards out and hit the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Nearly 14 minutes later, Sara Tankard played a ball to the middle from the endline on the left side where Claire Pelura tapped it home to double the advantage at halftime.
A long pass over the defense in the 58th minute allowed Leslie O’Brien to beat the last defender for a 3-0 lead.
Solo runs from Paulina Goodman and Zazzali four minutes apart made it a 5-0 game at the 66:48 mark.
Francesca Peretti popped a ball into the upper-right corner of the net off a Ava Scheininger cross in the 75th minute.
Off a Tankard corner in the 78th minute, Zazzali headed the ball in before Scheininger finished off a Zazzali blocked shot rebound two minutes later.
