McDaniel splits at North/South Duals
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Cory Beall (Hagerstown, Md./Northwest) went 4-0 to lead McDaniel to a 2-2 day at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
Beall recorded a pin, technical fall, forfeit and medical forfeit at 165 to amass 23 points in four matches.
The Green Terror (2-4) opened the day with a 37-9 victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology before falling to 19th-ranked Oneonta, 40-9. McDaniel added a 39-12 win over Trinity (Conn.) before closing the day with a 24-19 loss to Plymouth State.
Against MIT, C.J. Naper (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) gave the Green Terror a 6-3 lead in the match with a 1-minute, 49-second pin at 133.
After Kenzan Tanche put the Engineers on top 9-6 but three straight forfeit victories and a Ryan Deiter (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) pin at 184 gave McDaniel a 30-9 lead en route to its first win of the season.
In addition to Beall’s pin against Oneonta, Zach Hetrick (Hanover, Pa./South Western), who also went 4-0 on the day, added a 4-2 win at 157 to cut into a 21-0 deficit. Beall made it 21-9 with his second-period fall but the Red Dragons captured the final four matches for the win.
Tim Hall (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Naper opened the Trinity match with back-to-back pins late in the second period to stake the Green Terror to a 12-0 lead.
Hetrick and Beall stretched the lead to 23-6 before McDaniel captured three of the final four bouts to secure the win.
Clinging to a 21-19 lead, Josh St. Ours took a 5-4 victory at heavyweight to give Plymouth State a victory in the Green Terror’s closest match of the day.
A Naper 2-minute, 15-second pin gave McDaniel a 6-3 lead before a pin and forfeit turned that three-point lead into a nine-point deficit.
Technical falls from Hetrick and Beall gave the Green Terror a 16-15 edge but back-to-back decisions gave the Panthers a 21-16 lead.
McDaniel returns to action at the Virginia Duals on Friday and Saturday.
