No. 4 Delaware Valley takes down McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Ryan Herwig recorded a technical fall at the end of the first period to lead fourth-ranked Delaware Valley to a 42-6 victory over McDaniel in non-conference wrestling action on Friday.
Herwig won his 157-pound match 18-2 for the final of five technical falls for the visitors.
Courtney Nightengale (Sublette, Kan./Cimmaron) recorded the only points for the Green Terror (3-7), earning a forfeit at 174 – the final match of the night.
Midway through the match, Brandon Clemmer recorded a 17-0 technical fall at the end of the second period to secure the match for the Aggies (7-4), who won all nine matches they wrestled.
Michael Wilcox, the second-ranked wrestler in Division III at 184, opened the match with the first technical fall for Delaware Valley, ending the match 54 seconds into the third period with a 20-4 win.
Ninth-ranked Joe West stretched the lead to 0-9 with a 17-4 victory at 197 before Kyle Bilquist, also ranked second in Division III, made it 12-0 with a 5-3 victory at heavyweight.
After a Chris Sheetz forfeit at 125, Clemmer secured the match before Eric McCann (141) made it back-to-back technical falls with an 18-2 victory just into the third period.
A Jesse Harrington forfeit win at 149 made it 34-0 before the Herwig’s technical fall.
Greg Miele (165) recorded the Aggies’ final points by a 6-1 margin before Nightengale’s forfeit win.
McDaniel returns to action at the Centennial Conference-opening quad match at Washington and Lee on Saturday. The Green Terror opens the day against Stevens at 10 a.m.
