Gettysburg jumps out to early lead, downs McDaniel
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg won the first five contested matches en route to a 24-12 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling action on Tuesday. Keyed by first-period pins by Matt Shank (149) and Andrew Goldsetin (157), the Bullets (2-11, 1-4 CC) built a 24-0 lead before the Green Terror (3-9, 0-4 CC) won the final four bouts to set the final margin.
Jack Bostrom opened the action with a 4-minute, 3-second fall at 133 before Richard Marsella stretched the lead to 9-0 with a 9-3 win at 141.
Shank got a pin in 2:26 before Goldstein notched the fall in 2:32 to make it a 21-0 lead.
Pat Doherty’s (165) escape and takedown in the final 20 seconds of the match and 1 minute, 18 seconds of riding time allowed him to overcome a 5-2 deficit for a 6-5 win and 24-0 lead for his team.
Courtney Nightengale (Sublette, Kan./Cimmaron) got an 8-3 win at 174 to breakup the shutout and Ryan Deiter (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) made it 24-6 with a 12-5 win at 184.
Ferris Bond (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) and Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) closed the match with decision wins. Bond (197) won 8-3 before Goltfelty took a 5-1 victory at heavyweight.
McDaniel returns to action at Ursinus for a CC quad match on Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m.
