McDaniel finishes seventh at CC Championships; Glotfelty places second at heavyweight

 
 
 
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) placed second at heavyweight to lead McDaniel to a seventh-place finish at the 2008 Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling championships hosted by Ursinus on Saturday.
            The Green Terror recorded 28 team points. Behind three individual champions, Merchant Marine Academy won the team title with 99.5 points, outdistancing the five-time defending champion Ursinus by 31 points.
            Ferris Bond (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) added a third-place finish at 197 while Zach Hetrick (Hanover, Pa./South Western) and Courtney Nightengale (Sublette, Kan./Cimmaron) rounded out the top-four finishers with fourth-place showings.
            Glotfelty, the third seed, opened his day with a 2-minute, 54-second fall of Merchant Marine’s Judson Connell before advancing to the championship bout with a 4-minute, 52-second pin of No. 2 seed Joe Tarter (Muhlenberg).
            In the championship match, top-seeded Matt Williams (Ursinus) edged Glotfelty, 8-6.
            Bond, the fourth seed, started the day with a pin five seconds before the final horn before dropping to the consolation bracket after being on the short end of a 17-1 technical fall against the top-seed and eventual champion Eric Vincent (Merchant Marine).
            In the consolation bracket, Bond used a pair of sudden-victory wins to take home third.
            Hetrick (157), the No. 5 seed, opened with a 5-1 win over Merchant Marine’s Scott Lowe before getting pinned by top-seeded and eventual champion Andrew Goldstein (Gettysburg) late in the first period.
            Hetrick grabbed a 9-7 win before Lowe got the better of him in the third-place bout, 5-0.
            Nightengale (174) started the day with a 3-2 win over third-seeded Justin Diesel (Merchant Marine) before No. 2 Justin Fitch got a pin with 12 seconds on the third-period clock.
            In the consolation bracket, Nightengale got a 7-3 win before falling to Diesel, 3-2.
            Cory Beall (Hagerstown, Md./Northwest) notched the only other win of the day for McDaniel, notching a 4-2 win at 165.
