DUBUQUE, Iowa – Drew Winfield (Union Bridge, MD/South Carroll) concluded his season with a sixth-place finish in the 174-pound weight class to earn All-America status at the 2007 NCAA Division III national wrestling championships on Friday and Saturday.
            The seventh seed in the bracket, Winfield dropped his opening match of the weekend to the second-seeded Robert Gotreau (Augsburg) by a 1-0 count.
            In the consolation bracket, Winfield pinned SUNY Brockport’s Eric VanPatten in 5:38 to move on to Saturday and assure he would become an All-American – the Green Terror’s seventh wrestler to earn such accolades.
            Winfield added an 8-2 win over Cortland’s Trevor LeBlanc before falling to Williams’ Jonathan Dolan 8-5.
            In the fifth-place match, Winfield once again dropped a decision to Gotreau, 2-1.

Winfield nabs CC crown; McDaniel finishes fourth
 
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Drew Winfield (Union Bridge, MD/South Carroll) won the 174-pound weight class to lead McDaniel to a fourth-place finish at the Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling championship hosted by Gettysburg on Saturday.
As a team, the Green Terror collected 50 team points, falling 35.5 points shy of Ursinus’ 85.5 points. Behind six second-place finishes, the Bears won their fifth consecutive team crown.
Muhlenberg finished second with 74.5 points while Johns Hopkins was third with 61 points.
Winfield, the second seed at 174, won his opening-round match 15-6 before knocking off the No. 3 and No. 1 seeds, respectively, to take the individual crown and advance to the Division III National Championships on Mar. 2-3 at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
In the semifinal bout, Winfield pinned Washington and Lee’s Jesup Sataloff in 2:57.
In a rematch of last year’s final, Winfield turned the table on Johns Hopkins’ David Kraus, notching a 10-3 victory.
Tim Hall (Westminster, MD/Westminster) and Steve Colasuonno (Holtsville, NY/Sachem) each finished third in their respective weight classes.
Hall (125), the fifth seed, dropped to the consolation bracket with a 16-4 loss to Kyle Brisson (Stevens).
In the consolation semifinals, Hall pinned Sam Brusca (Washington and Lee) in 2:10 before exacting revenge on Brisson with a 2-minute, 17-second fall.
After receiving an opening-round bye, Colasuonno (133), the fourth seed, was pinned by top seed, and eventual champion, Billy Hall (Muhlenberg) with eight seconds remaining in the bout.
In the consolation semifinals, Colasuonno recorded a 14-1 major decision before nabbing a 5-3 win in the third-place match.
RJ Neaton (Easton, MD/Easton) at 141, Zach Hetrick (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) at 157 and Courtney Nightengale (Cimmarron, KS/Cimmarron) at 165 each finished in fourth place for McDaniel.

McDaniel closes dual season with 1-2 showing at Messiah Quad
 
GRANTHAM, Pa. – Drew Winfield notched two pins and a technical fall to lead McDaniel to a 1-2 outing at the Messiah quad match in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
            The Green Terror (4-10) opened the day with a 24-22 loss to Hunter before falling to King’s, 37-12. McDaniel closed the day with a 21-19 win over the host Falcons.
            In the day’s win against Messiah, Winfield notched a 22-7 technical fall to snap a 13-all deadlock in the match and put the Green Terror on top for good. Ferris Bond added a 6-3 victory at 197 to give the squad a 21-16 lead with one bout remaining.
            Ethan Bucarey got a 2-1 decision win at heavyweight to set the final margin.
            Tim Hall (125) opened the match with a 1-minute, 26-second pin before Steve Colasuonno stretched the lead to 10-0 on a 13-5 win at 133. Zach Hetrick (157) rounded out McDaniel winners with a 9-3 victory.
            Against Hunter, the Green Terror built a 22-7 lead behind a pin from Winfield (1:5) and a technical fall from Colasuonno (20-4) before the Hawks got a pair of technical falls and two pins in the last four bouts to take the victory.
            Against King’s, the Monarchs built a 28-0 advantage before Winfield’s fall broke up the shutout 1:56 into the 174-pound bout. A Zach Wilkinson pin stretched the lead to 34-6 but Bond responded with a 1-minute, 51-second fall of his own before Justin Bender set the final margin with a 6-1 victory at heavyweight.
            McDaniel returns to action at the Centennial Conference championships hosted by Gettysburg on Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m.

McDaniel falls twice in final CC dual-meet action of season
LEXINGTON, Va. – Drew Winfield notched a pair of pins but McDaniel dropped its final two Centennial Conference (CC) dual meets in wrestling action on Saturday.
            The Green Terror (3-8, 2-5 CC) fell to Muhlenberg (5-4-1, 5-2 CC) 34-16 before dropping a 27-16 decision to No. 30 Ursinus (12-1, 5-1 CC).
            Against the Mules, Winfield (174) notched a 3-minute, 52-second pin of Justin Finch before dropping the Bears’ Jon McCarthy in 1:45.
            Behind a Michel Tenenhaus forfeit and Billy Hall pin, Muhlenberg jumped out to an early 12-0 lead in the match.
            An RJ Neaton 18-5 win at 141 and Joseph DeCampo 21-10 victory at 149 made it a 16-4 match before Zach Hetrick notched a first-period fall at 165 to pull McDaniel within 16-10.
            An 8-7 victory by David Levin at 165 stretched the lead back to nine before Winfield’s first pin of the day drew the Green Terror within 19-16.
            A Matt Horn (184) pin in 1:26 and Matt Loesch (197) 10-5 win secured the match before Chris Swensen wrapped up the match with a 4-minute, 6-second fall in the heavyweight bout.
            Against Ursinus, McDaniel found itself in a similar 12-0 hole before major decision victories by James Bloom and Sean Donohue at 141 and 149, respectively, swelled the lead to 20-0.
            Hetrick (15-2) and Courtney Nightengale (5-4) responded with victories. Coupled with Winfield’s second fall, the Green Terror clawed within 20-13.
            Wins from Harry Keyser (12-3) and Matt Williams (6-2) sandwiched a 12-6 Ferris Bond win to set the final margin.
            McDaniel returns to action in a quad match at Messiah with King’s and Hunter. Action begins at 12 p.m.

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Courtney Nightengale recorded a first-period pin to start a stretch a three straight falls that helps McDaniel record a 42-9 victory over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling action on Wednesday.
            Cory Beall (174) and Drew Winfield (184) also notched pins to help the Green Terror (3-6, 2-3 CC) snap a three-match skid.
            Matt Shank recorded one of two victories for the Bullets (2-9-1, 1-4 CC) with his ninth pin of the season.
            Bobby Coleman staked McDaniel to an early 6-0 lead, taking a forfeit at 125 before Steve Colasuonno stretched the lead to 11-0 with an 18-2 technical fall midway through the second period of the 133-pound bout.
            RJ Neaton’s 11-1 victory at 141 made it a 15-0 Green Terror lead before Shank (149) recorded a 3-minute, 55-second pin to get Gettysburg on the board.
            Andrew Goldstein followed that up with a 16-11 victory to pull the Bullets within 15-9, but Nightengale’s fall secured no worse than a tie for McDaniel before Beall sealed the win with his pin (5:50).
            Winfield added a fall in 2:20 and Ferris Bond rounded out the competed matches with a 16-9 win at 197.
            Ryan Deiter added a second forfeit victory at heavyweight for the Green Terror.
            McDaniel returns to action in a tri-match at Washington and Lee, taking on Ursinus and Muhlenberg on Saturday. Action begins at 11 a.m.

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Andrew Winfield notched the only victory of the night for McDaniel, who fell at fourth-ranked Delaware Valley 42-3 in non-conference wrestling action on Friday.
            The Aggies (14-2) got four pins to record their ninth win in their last 10 dual matches.
            Winfield broke up the shutout, recording a 9-2 victory at 184 for the Green Terror (2-6), who found itself in a 30-0 hole at that point in the match.
            After no 125-pound bout, Justin Shorts got a 2-minute pin at 133.
            Ricky LaForge was awarded a forfeit at 141 before Jaryd Steinbacher recorded a 4-minute, 6-second fall at 149 to stretch the lead to 18-0.
            A Ryan Herwig forfeit victory stretched the lead to 24-0 before Ryan Pope secured the match victory with a 4-1 win at 165.
            Vinny LaSelve stretched the lead to 30-0 with a 2-1 win at 174 before Winfield broke up the shutout.
            Kevin Orr (197) and Kyle Bilquist (HWT) rounded out the match with first-period pins.

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Tyler Schmidt notched a first-period pin at 197 to secure a 24-18 Johns Hopkins victory at McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling action on Wednesday.
            Ryan Deiter (Clarksville, MD/ River Hill) notched the only pin of the night for the Green Terror (2-5, 1-3 CC), who jumped out to an early 9-0 lead before the Blue Jays (3-10, 1-3 CC) reeled off wins in six of the next seven bouts to win the match.McDaniel pin in the last bout of the night in Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling action versus Johns Hopkins Wednesday night.
            With his team leading 18-12, Schmidt notched a 2-minute, 30-second fall to put the match out of reach with one bout remaining.
            Deiter set the final margin with his pin 48 seconds into the second period.
            Tim Hall’s 12-9 decision victory over Mike Summer coupled with a Steve Colasuonno (Holtsville, NY/Sachem) forfeit win gave McDaniel the early advantage.
            After Marco Priolo was awarded the forfeit victory at 141 to get Johns Hopkins on the board, James Gettinger and Jim Crumlish each notched decision wins to give the Blue Jays a 12-9 lead.
            A Courtney Nightengale (Sublett, KS/Cimmaron) 15-12 victory at 165 knotted the match at 12 before David Kraus and Eric Fishel each nabbed two point wins at 174 and 184, respectively.

KIGNS POINT, N.Y. – Artie Kaehler notched three pins to lead McDaniel to a 1-2 opening to the Centennial Conference (CC) slate in a wrestling quad match at USMMA-Kings Point on Saturday.
            The Green Terror (2-4, 1-2 CC) dropped its opening match to the host Mariners (3-7, 3-0 CC) 28-19 before defeating Stevens (3-9, 0-3 CC), 33-17. McDaniel rounded out the day with a 26-15 loss to Washington and Lee (4-2, 3-1 CC).
            Against Kings Point, Kaehler evened the match at 6-all with his 42-second pin of Anthony Day.
            RJ Neaton gave the Green Terror a 12-6 advantage with his first-period fall of Aaron Melton at 141 before the Mariners rolled off wins in the next four bout to take command of the match, 24-12.
            Andrew Winfield snapped the streak with an 11-2 victory at 184 and Ryan Deiter rounded out the McDaniel winners with a third-overtime 3-2 win at heavyweight.
            Against the Ducks, Steve Colasuonno (125) and Kaehler (133) staked the Green Terror to an early 9-0 lead. Colasuonno notched a 4-2 win while Kaehler recorded a pin in 4:06.
            With the match deadlocked at 9, Zack Hetrick pinned Zak Lenz in 3:00 at 157 to give McDaniel the lead once again, 15-9.
            Forfeit wins by Corey Beall (174) and Ferris Bond (197) coupled with a Winfield pin at 184 secured the match for the Green Terror.
            In the final match of the day, Kaehler gave McDaniel a 6-3 edge with his 2-minute, 38-second fall of David Shubick before the Generals won the next five matches to take command, 22-6.
            Winfield and Deiter rounded out the Green Terror winners. Winfield pinned Max Courtney in 6:02 while Deiter got a 6-3 decision victory.
            McDaniel returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Match time is 7 pm.

McDaniel goes 1-2 at NCWA/Cliff Keen National Duals
 
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Ferris Bond recorded an 11-8 decision victory at 197 to secure a 25-20 victory over Ohio Northern in McDaniel’s final wrestling match on Saturday at the 2007 NCWA/Cliff Keen National Duals.
            The Green Terror (1-2) fell in its opening match 41-12 to No. 4 Luther before dropping a 36-15 decision to North Central.
            Andrew Winfield won all three of his bouts at 174. Against Luther, he recorded a 3-minute, 32-second pin before notching a pair of decisions, 7-0 against North Central’s Greg Schroeder and 6-1 over Ohio Northern’s Ben Plowman.
            Zach Hetrick (157) went 2-1 on the day. He recorded a pair of falls, pinning Luther’s Ben Kissling (1:12) and Ohio Northern’s Lucas Jacomet (1:55).
            Steve Colasuonno also notched a 2-1 day at 125. Against North Central, he opened the match with a 38-second pin before tallying an 8-6 win over Ohio Northern’s David Penny.
            McDaniel returns to action at the Ohio Northern Invitational on Dec. 9.

McDaniel finishes 17th at Ohio Northern Invitational
 
ADA, Ohio – Drew Winfield placed seventh in the 174-pound weight class to lead McDaniel to a 17th place finish at the Ohio Northern wrestling invitational on Saturday.
            As a team, the Green Terror finished with 23.5 points in the 22-team field. Mercyhurst won the team title with 209 points.
            Winfield, the seventh seed, opened his day with an 8-0 major decision victory over Tri-State’s Nick Kraus.
            After dropping to the consolation bracket with a 5-2 loss to second-seeded Tommy Clark (West Liberty), Winfield notched a 7-2 victory over Ryan Pritchard (Waynesburg).
            Winfield then loss to the No. 6 seed Matt Reis 9-5 before winning the seventh-place match by a 3-1 decision.
            Artie Kaehler went 3-2 at 133, including a 1-minute, 28-second pin.
            Courtney Nightengale went 2-2 in the 165 bracket, opening his day with a 3-minute, 12-second pin of Aaron Gramann (Muskingum).
            McDaniel returns to action at the NCWA National Duals on Jan. 13-14.

McDaniel finishes 12th at Navy Classic
 
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Ryan Deiter finished sixth in the heavyweight bracket to lead McDaniel to a 12th place finish at the Navy Classic in wrestling action on Saturday.
            The Green Terror finished with 15.5 points. The host Midshipmen won the 13-team tournament with 148.5 points.
            Navy’s Scott Steele recorded a 17-1 technical fall over Deiter in the opening round of the bracket.
            In his first match in the consolation bracket, Deiter pinned Judson Miller (Liberty) in 4:52 before being awarded a medical forfeit victory to ensure that he would finish in the top six.
            Dustin Rogers of West Virginia pinned Deiter in the second minute of the match and Jeremiah Fennell of Campbell recorded a 4-minute, 59-second fall over Deiter in the fifth-place match.
            Also in the heavyweight bracket, Keith English went 1-2, recording a 54-second pin over Duquesne’s James Sellers.
            At 174, Cory Beall recorded one win in his three matches, coming out on the top side of a 2-1 decision over Navy’s Benjamin Nichols.
            Artie Kaehler also went 1-2, recording a pin over Liberty’s Dustin Hicks in 1:16.
            McDaniel returns to action at the Ohio Northern Invitational on Dec. 9.

McDaniel opens season with sixth-place showing at Messiah; Colasuonno wins 125
 
GRANTHAM, Pa. – Steve Colasuonno went 2-0 to win the 125-pound weight class and lead McDaniel to a sixth-place showing at the Messiah Invitational in season-opening wrestling action on Saturday.
            The Green Terror finished with 47.5 points in its first action of the season.
            Colasuonno recorded a pin and a technical fall to earn the title.
            In his first match, he pinned Tim Sykes of Case Western Reserve in 1 minute, 22 seconds before recording a 16-0 victory over Waynesburg’s Anthony Parks in the championship match.
            In the same weight class, Tim Hall wrestled back to a third-place showing after being pinned in the second period of his first match.
            Hall also pinned Sykes in 3:08 before winning the third-place match 17-2 over Messiah’s Mark Eilertsen.
            Artie Kaehler, seeded second at 133, also placed third in his weight class.
            After pinning Rob Doverspike (Johns Hopkins) in 1:56, he was pinned to drop to the consolation bracket.
            There, he notched a 6-5 decision victory over Matt Ulrich (Southern Maine) before pinning Messiah’s Alex DeHart in the first minute of the third-place bout.
            Zach Hetrick finished fourth at 157, pinning BJ Greenman (Case Western Reserve) in his first match before being dropped to the consolation bracket with a 12-1 loss to Jordan Ohman (Messiah).
            Hetrick notched a major decision of his own, defeating Messiah’s Trey Speers 8-0 to advance to the third-place bout, where he fell to Johns Hopkins’ Jim Crumlish 8-5 in the tiebreaker.
            McDaniel returns to action on Saturday when it hosts the Green Terror Duals. Action begins at 9:30 a.m.
